This unique opportunity is for immediate hire and will work full-time in the Foundation’s office in beautiful Newport Beach, California.

OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW
The Director of Gift Planning develops supportive relationships with individual donors, professional advisors, and nonprofits to fulfill donors’ philanthropic visions and maximize the impact of their giving. This individual will be a primary partner and advisor on charitable fund and gifting options at OCCF. As part of the Philanthropic Strategy team, this role will guide and support the development, establishment and management of new funds and associated planned and current gifts. Additionally, this role will partner with leadership to support the expansion of our Professional Advisor Network (e.g. attorneys, CPAs, wealth advisors, financial planners) to enable OCCF’s positioning as the go-to philanthropic advisor in Orange County.
A propensity for high-touch customer service, relationship building, and a creative mindset is foundational to this role. By developing relationships with – and serving as a trusted and valued resource – to staff, donors, professional advisors and other stakeholders, this role will facilitate education, information-sharing, greater visibility and asset growth for OCCF.
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop long-term relationships on behalf of the Foundation by cultivating, advising and stewarding prospects and donors on fund types and major, planned and deferred gift options.
  • Actively support the development and cultivation of impactful individual relationships with top-tier professional advisors who serve as the primary funnel for OCCF’s future donor prospects through in-person and virtual methods of engagement.
  • Serve as a resource and advise prospects and donors on OCCF gift types including gifts of cash, stock and more complex gifts including real estate, annuities, closely held stock, and more. Provide advice on various tax advantages or implications ensuring clients consider options suitable for their circumstance.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of both traditional and innovative gift planning methods and tax considerations of such gifts.
  • Manage the end-to-end process required for illiquid asset gift acceptance (e.g. real estate property gift, closely held business stock, etc.). Partner closely with Finance and Legal on gift acceptance processes and procedures to ensure a positive donor experience, compliance and risk management.
  • As a member of the Philanthropic Strategy team, work in a collegial manner with leaders and team members in creating and implementing strategies and tactics designed to achieve asset growth goals, as well as broader organizational goals and objectives.
  • Identify, manage and steward legacy donors who have committed to bequests and legacies in the future.
  • Enter, maintain and track prospect and donor activities in OCCF’s CRM systems.
  • Collaborate with Marketing team to create educational resource materials and newsletter communications to prospects, donors and professional advisors communicating the value of the organization’s offerings and services.
     
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking a skilled relationship builder and service-driven professional to drive connection on behalf of OCCF’s mission and vision. This person must have a deep desire to learn and educate others on the various gift options available through OCCF, while providing best-in-class customer service and effectively collaborating with OCCF colleagues.
 
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in a wide variety of complex gifts such as real estate, full or partial interest in privately held companies (“S” or “C” corps) and trusts or have the aptitude, interest and drive to build knowledge in these areas. Requirements:
  • Passion for the mission and work of OCCF.
  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, law, finance or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a philanthropic, estate planning, gift planning or another professional advisory service area.
  • The desire and proven ability to educate stakeholders around various, sometimes complex topics in a way that builds relationships and trust, requiring:
    • Exceptional listening skills
    • Exceptional communication skills
    • Partnership orientation
    • Focus on long-term relationship cultivation
  • Ability and comfort to speak publicly on behalf of the organization regarding gift planning options and processes.
  • Experience in executing organizational growth objectives and strategies
  • Knowledge around the intricacies of traditional gift planning, trusts, charitable giving vehicles, charitable tax and gift structures and complex giving vehicles a plus!
