Scion Staffing, Inc. (www.scionstaffing.com), a full-service national staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct the search for a HR Generalist for our client, a nationally recognized D.C.-based nonprofit focused on closing the literacy achievement gap for low-income children. With 60 employees in offices and another 300+ working in schools, our client is seeking a full-time, direct hire HR Generalist to provide the spectrum of HR support to mission-driven leaders and staff.


Position Overview:

Our client is seeking candidates experienced with nonprofit human resources who can oversee compliance across six regions via creating, updating and managing various HR systems, processes and policies. Reporting to the Director of Operations and HR, this role will handle a wide spectrum of HR-related items including:

  • Create, update, implement, manage and monitor a variety of HR policies and procedures such as paid and unpaid leave, benefits, healthcare and other state and Federal policies.
  • Oversee the process around bi-monthly payroll preparation and ensure all related information is accessible and accurate for all employees.
  • Design, deliver and coordinate staff trainings around HR policies and organizational culture.
  • Create and manage onboarding and offboarding processes for tutor and staff positions.
  • Continually update all training guides, policy manuals and other HR resources.

This role is not involved in staff/employee recruitment at this time.

This role will likely travel out of town 5-10 nights per year for training, events and conferences.

What You Bring:

We are seeking candidates with at minimum 2 years’ nonprofit HR Generalist experience (experience with daily management and handling of benefits, health care, leave and other employee policies). Experience in the nonprofit education field (i.e. Americorps) is a plus. Additionally, we are seeking candidates who possess: 

  • Meticulous attention to details and deadlines.
  • Great personal discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills including ability to present and provide trainings, as needed.
  • A deep commitment to our client’s mission of closing the literacy achievement gap.
  • Strong computer and software skills, especially with Word, Excel, Google Suite, Salesforce, Canva and Paycom.

Details

  • This is a Direct Hire, Full-Time position
  • Salary: between $55,000-$70,000 depending on experience
  • This role will normally be in-office, though right now works remotely
  • Hours: 8am-5pm, M-F
  • Location: Washington D.C.
