Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a new Medical Director for our wonderful nonprofit healthcare client in the San Francisco Bay Area. This newly created position is an exciting opportunity that offers the incredible chance to work with a dedicated team to help the community daily. The Medical Director helps lead Medical Management functions that include Utilization Management, Case Management, and Disease Management Programs on behalf of the organization.

The Medical Director shares in the administrative functions that impact the organizations medical services and collaborates with the management team in strategic planning activities.

This includes:

  • Referral Management: Monitoring care utilization trends and making recommendations to position the organization proactively.
  • Developing and implementing action plans, policies, and procedures to ensure appropriate and efficient utilization of services.
  • Supervising the education, guidance, assistance, and feedback to primary care physicians, specialty physicians, network providers and vendors to promote appropriate effective and cost-effective patient care.
  • Leads efforts with providers to maximize patient experience.
  • Oversees the compliance with contractual Health Plan requirements, Federal and state statutes and regulations.
  • Attends, supports, and provide presentations at Board Meetings, Committee meetings, and events.
  • Helps develop educational programs for the physician network to enhance the delivery of patient care.
  • Participates in Staff Meetings, Directors Meetings, Committee meetings and other ad-hoc meetings/seminars as needed.
  • Assist claims staff in review of medical claims of services or other inappropriate billing practices if/as needed.

  • Supervise programs and cases to ensure they are working and performing to their maximum potential with regards to providing exceptional care.
  • Serve as an organizational leader, including engaging in public speaking, overseeing, and evaluating staff, and creating incredible programs.
  • Assist in evaluating claims and billing, outlining payment structures, and facilitating contact with physicians.

What You Have to Offer:

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree from an Accredited Medical School.
  • Must hold a valid, current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of California.
  • Have at least 3 years of clinical practice in direct patient care; and at least three years of medical management experience in a managed care setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience working with indigent populations and community-based programs.
  • Clinical experience and private practice experience desirable.
  • Managed Care experience desirable.
  • Past UM experience at the IPA or Health Plan level is preferred.
