Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct the search for a Director of Transportation on behalf of our incredible client, a scaling industry leader in the logistics solutions space! This full-time position is for immediate hire and operates from our client’s location in the San Francisco Bay Area.


Position Summary:

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Director of Transportation (DoT) is responsible for all final mile freight operations within North America and will serve as a key thought leader and cross-departmental collaborator regarding all strategic and tactical operations within a rapidly growing, revolutionary start-up! The DoT recognizes current obstacles within the logistics and supply chain industry and possesses an affinity for the efficient articulation and execution of results-oriented solutions!


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to the Transportation team regarding all strategic and tactical aspects of the business.
  • Meet and significantly exceed all company directed KPI’s around speed, cost and quality in order to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
  • Understand market direction and identify shifting trends to set priorities in collaboration with key partners, using benchmarking across industry and internal standards.
  • Provide guidance to the Finance team regarding transportation budgets and forecasts, including the identification of key areas of opportunities or risks.
  • Design and lead transportation optimization projects and implement value-added services.
  • Seek out and evaluate new transportation opportunities by providing in-depth analysis, cost modeling and financial impacts.
  • Support external and internal stakeholders with detailed cost and performance analysis for transportation solutions.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years’ experience in Supply Chain, Transportation, and/or Logistics.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in managing gig workers/Independent Contractors highly preferred.
  • LEAN Operational Excellence background with a demonstrated ability to execute multiple projects systematically and simultaneously.
  • Flexibility and desire to succeed in a high pressure, constantly changing work environment are essential to this role!
  • Robust approach to problem solving with an excitement to drive company growth and improvement!
  • Proven success within E-commerce or small parcel shipping industries preferred.
  • Strong analytical skillset and acumen for data analysis, reporting, and financial modeling in a logistics and supply chain setting.
  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft Excel, SQL, Access and other modeling tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with strong presentation skills!
  • Ability to travel up to 15%, as needed.
