Scion Executive Search, an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct the search for an Executive Director on behalf of our highly regarded and well-respected client, the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence; an established nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Nevada’s communities respond effectively and creatively to the needs of domestic violence victims. This full-time, hybrid opportunity is available immediately and is open to individuals throughout the state of Nevada, or those willing to relocate.

 

Organization Overview:

The Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV) was founded in 1980 by the five existing domestic violence programs as a vehicle to provide statewide focus on the issue of domestic violence.  Our overall purpose is to help Nevada’s communities respond creatively and effectively to the needs of victims of domestic and sexual violence.  NCEDSV works toward being the statewide voice advocating for the prevention and elimination of domestic and sexual violence through partnering with communities.  NCEDSV recognizes the importance of and affirms our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Position Overview:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) guides and directs the activities of the NCEDSV, establishing and fostering statewide tactical partnerships, working with staff to provide exceptional support and technical assistance to member agencies, and strategically positioning NCEDSV to create the influence necessary to continue serving the needs of victims and their families. The ED is responsible for the leadership and overall administration of the NCEDSV’s objectives, initiatives, and activities, ensuring the achievement of long and short-term strategic, programmatic, and financial goals and the delivery of quality services by employees. The ED leads the Management Team and serves as the organization's principal spokesperson and representative.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Leadership and Planning:  

  • Provide leadership in developing organizational, strategic, and financial plans with the Board of Directors and employees, and then execute agreed-upon plans.
  • Ensure NCEDSV has a long-range strategy consistent with its strategic plan, which achieves the mission and vision of the organization, and makes consistent and timely progress through short- and long-term measurable goals.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field through ongoing training and development, and then implement knowledge learned within the organization, as well as work with agency personnel to disseminate information to member programs and constituents.
  • Serve as a resource and support to member programs, providing technical assistance and training as needed and advocating for their needs on a local, state, and national level.

 

Fiscal Management/Fund Development:

  • Overall management of the development and monitoring of the $1.4 million annual budget, long-range fiscal projections, the annual audit, compliance with the terms of all grants and contracts, and monitoring of all subcontracts with subgrantees.
  • Oversee the work of the Administrative Director to ensure a collaborative budgeting process that supports the organization’s needs and its implementation and that proper accounting practices are followed.
  • Ensure that adequate funds are available to support the activities of the NCEDSV and ensure its fiscal stability.
  • Prepare, delegate, and/or review, federal, state, and private foundation proposals, and grant applications.
  • Seek unrestricted operating funds on an annual basis to assure the sustainability of organizational priorities, which includes building a fiscal reserve.
  • Develop and grow a diversified fund development program including major gifts ranging from $1,000 - $30,000 with concise goals and measurable milestones.
  • Support the Board’s Internal Affairs Committee in its work, which includes monitoring NCEDSV’s invested funds.

 

Policy and Advocacy:

  • Monitor state and national policy development and utilize the policy department to take appropriate actions that will help victim-survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as help eradicate domestic violence and sexual assault in Nevada.
  • Provide leadership, planning, and implementation of public policy agenda, relative to state and federal government responses to domestic violence and sexual assault issues.
  • Coordinate the representation of NCEDSV, its member programs, and the interests of victims, during the state legislative sessions, which may include guiding and supporting agency employees within the policy department, developing relationships, coordinating with key stakeholders, and providing testimony.

 

Personnel Management: 

  • Oversee the management of all employees, which includes all aspects of staffing, compensation, benefits, employee relations, and employee development.
  • Oversee the work of staff dedicated to specific NCEDSV initiatives through guidance, support, and delegation.
  • Maintain a healthy, trauma-informed, organizational culture and atmosphere in which all staff operate as a unified team and are connected to the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure that all organizational practices actively promote inclusion and diversity, as well as adhere to anti-discrimination laws enforced by the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission).

 

Public Relations: 

  • Develop and implement a public relations/communications plan for the NCEDSV, promoting public awareness that fosters anti-victim blaming attitudes and intolerance of domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Foster relationships with local and statewide media outlets, respond to requests for comment and participate in interviews as needed.
  • Serve as lead spokesperson for the organization, while also cultivating other spokespeople among staff and the Board.

 

Board of Directors:

  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with the Board of Directors, including continual communication with the Board; orienting new Board members, and leveraging the resources of the Board to maximum effect to accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Partner with the Board to implement the agency’s strategic plan and identify areas of growth.
  • Report regularly and transparently to the Board on all progress and challenges.
  • Support development of strong Board recruitment, retention, evaluation, and training.
  • Provide regular financial statements for the Board.
  • Additional duties as appropriate based on the job description.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a management level role required, which includes the oversight of 10 or more employees.
  • Master's degree in a related field, or bachelor’s degree with related experience, or 10+ years' experience working at a domestic violence and/or sexual assault agency with extensive formal training in the field.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors preferred.
  • Experience driving successful fundraising and effectively engaging donors to build and sustain operations.
  • Experience soliciting unrestricted gifts totaling $50,000 annually.
  • Working knowledge of basic financial accounting for non-profit businesses required, which includes experience with grant management.
  • Experience in the domestic violence/sexual assault field is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with leadership of programs, personnel management, and team building, which includes effective delegation of tasks and duties.
  • Experience mentoring staff and assisting them in growing their roles.
  • Knowledge of developing community, and proven collaborative partner in community initiatives.
  • Previous experience in written communications, policy analysis, media work, and organizational leadership.
  • Experience or familiarity with statewide member organizations preferred.
  • Media training preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, on paper, electronically, and by telephone with varied constituencies.
  • Forward thinking: the ability to envision and implement innovative initiatives that move the mission, vision, and values of the organization forward.
  • Ability to think critically and use discretion to make and implement decisions independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to treat all people with dignity and respect, and value diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Ability to face conflict within a team and resolve issues in a calm and constructive manner, as well as accept, act upon, and offer constructive criticism.
  • Ability to recognize burnout, compassion fatigue, and secondary traumatic stress in oneself and others, as well as implement and role-model self-care strategies in one’s own life and within the organization.
  • Ability to inspire others to follow the organizational mission, values, and goals of NCEDSV.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • This position is considered exempt from overtime provisions outlined within the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Nevada Revised Statues. Extended hours may be required to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Requires frequent driving and flight travel to meetings throughout the state and to various locations around the country with an emphasis during Nevada Legislative Session.
  • Some evenings and weekends may be required based on the organization's demand.     
  • Normal office conditions, which may include standing or sitting for extended periods, light lifting, and repetitive movements of the hands, wrists, or fingers while using a keyboard.
  • Potential for stress due to multiple demands of the position, as well as hearing graphic and disturbing stories of domestic violence and sexual assault.       

 

Compensation & Benefits:

In addition to a competitive base salary of $100,000-$135,000, this opportunity offers a robust benefits package with medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees, paid sick leave, holidays, life insurance, and retirement plan options, as well as 2 weeks of annual paid vacation.
