Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an experienced nonprofit Development Director for Grantmakers in Health, a national nonprofit dedicated to fostering communication and collaboration among grant makers and others to help strengthen the grant community’s skills and effectiveness. This is an incredible opportunity for a development professional to make a real impact on the strategic operations of this amazing organization. This full-time position is for immediate hire, offers a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite/2 remote), provides 100% employer paid medical/dental/vision benefits, and is conveniently located on Connecticut Ave in Washington, D.C.!  
 
The role: The Development Director advances Grantmakers in Health’s mission by securing revenue including annual funding partner contributions, grants, sponsorships, and other awards. This role is responsible for the strategy, planning and implementation of the activities associated with revenue generation with a heavy focus on grant writing, and corporate/foundation relations. The Development Director oversees the efforts of the Development Associate and creates and maintains systems and processes for fundraising and new business efforts. This role requires a high level of skill in written and verbal communication. The ideal candidate is driven, well-organized, and self-sufficient with a passion for better health and philanthropy.

The following essential functions require exceptional organization and communications skills, keen attention to detail, and superior reliability. 

Development: Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of client’s fundraising strategy, including annual appeal development and management among fundraising activities. Influence the organization’s development priorities and efforts including core development operations, special projects, new revenue-generating activities, and other creative endeavors.

Grant and Proposal Management: Author grant proposals and prepare reports for general operating support. Track and manage the timing of grant renewals, develop grant applications and budgets, facilitate grant award management, and ensure timely grant reporting.

Funding Partner Engagement: Identify, cultivate, and steward current and future funding partners through active participation in calls and meetings, presentation to donors, and effective recognition and acknowledgement of donor contributions. Strengthen relationships with corporate, foundation, and other philanthropic partners. Manage the annual funding partner renewal process.

Operations: Collaborate with the Finance and Operations team to provide input on the annual budget, draft board memos, and conduct reviews of current grants.

Travel: Occasional local and national travel is expected for this position including attending an annual conference, board meetings, and meetings with funding partners.

Requirements: 
• Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.  
• 5+ years of experience in grant writing and development for non-profit organizations.
• 5+ years of experience creating strategic development plans.
• Experience managing employees and project teams.  
• Extensive experience stewarding corporate and foundation relationships with fundraising partners.  
• Skilled in creating powerful, compelling written and oral communications.
• Strong organization and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail. 
• The ability to take initiative and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.  
 
Compensation & Benefits:
