Scion Nonprofit Staffing, an award-winning full-service staffing firm, has been engaged to conduct a search for a Director of Operations on behalf of our highly regarded client, who represents the best interest of military service members. The organization’s office is based in Washington, DC.  This hybrid role reports directly to the Executive Director.

 

Position Summary:

Our client seeks an enthusiastic and energetic collaborator as their next Director of Operations. The Director of Operations will provide administrative supervision of the headquarters to include building and property maintenance oversight, management of lease agreements, strategic planning, and oversight of financial budgets.  The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and can collaborate with a team of six while managing the day-to-day aspects of the organization and leading the staff and contracting partners.  The Director of Operations manages contracts, fundraising efforts, IT, and external communications.  This position is a key contributor to the association and acts as the Executive Director in his absence.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and ensure proper execution of all day-to-day operations
  • Serve as the human resources lead to research, select and manage employee benefits.
  • Process and manage accounts receivable and payable, employee payroll, and check-run approval (after initial onboarding).
  • Oversee maintenance of the building and grounds and act as point of contact for the tenants.
  • Negotiate and finalize maintenance agreements.
  • Act as the lead in planning and execution of fundraising events and conference management.
  • Oversee the selection and administration of insurance policies.
  • Coordinate building leases and other sources of revenue.
  • Serve as primary point of contact with legal counsel on lease and other agreements and contracts.
  • Develop requests for proposal.
  • Provide oversight and management of national meetings and events.
  • Develop budgets in coordination with key staff, financial management contractor, and BOD.
  • Serve as point of contact with legal counsel, auditors, financial organizations, and other specialized service providers.
  • Author correspondence for internal and external audiences as appropriate.
  • Serve as staff liaison on various committees as assigned by the executive director.
  • Other tasks, responsibilities, and projects as assigned
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree desirable but not mandatory.
  • Military experience, Active and or Reserve Component, with discharge under honorable conditions.
  • Demonstrated experience with leadership, business operations, planning and project management and budgeting.
  • Experience developing and managing start-up plans, work plans, budgets, close-out plans, dispositions
  • plans, branding and marketing plans, and other deliverables.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking skills, along with critical analysis and understanding of how to determine risk mitigation measures.
  • Exceptional ability to build lasting relationships in a complex business environment.
  • Understanding of associations and running programs.
  • Able to work effectively both independently, using one’s own initiative and delivering high-quality products on time, as well as when acting as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, interpersonal, team management, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and engaging large audiences.

Compensation & Benefits:

In addition to a competitive base salary of $110,000 to $ $120,000, this opportunity offers a robust benefits package with medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families.
