Job Search Engines. vs. Online Job Boards Listed Above

What is the difference between an online job board and a job search engine? This is a good question. Online job boards generally list positions posted by employers on the specific page, while job search engines aggregate job listings from many thousands of job boards and company websites.

Types of Job Search Websites

As listed above in the United States some of the most used job boards include Linkedin, Monster, CareerBuilder, Dice, and Idealist and Foundation List. You may also go directly to employer and association sites directly to find opportunities that are not found on most job search engines and online job boards. For example, large hospitals, Google, Apple, Amazon, or Facebook jobs may be best found on their site directly. Many job seekers find the use of job search engines such as indeed useful, but can be limited when it comes to finding work in specialty areas such as for nonprofits, foundations, and universities.

Sign Up for New Job Alerts

A job alert is a very useful tool that many job search engines and job boards provide. The job alert is a system then notifies you when there are new job listings on the site that match your interests.

You can set up alerts to receive notifications by email as seen here.
